Kerrin Leoni is a proud Aucklander, dedicated public servant, and experienced leader running for Mayor to be your voice at the top. With deep roots in both local communities and international leadership, Kerrin brings a unique blend of heart, heritage, and hard-earned experience to the role.

Elected as Whau Ward Councillor in 2022, Kerrin represents a diverse area that includes New Lynn, Avondale, Kelston, and beyond. Her leadership is grounded in her identity: she is of Māori (Ngāti Pāoa, Ngāi Takoto, Ngāti Kurī) and European (Italian, Irish) descent, and brings a bicultural, inclusive perspective to everything she does.

From attending primary school in Mt Roskill to finishing high school on Waiheke Island, Kerrin understands the challenges and opportunities that shape Aucklanders’ lives. A mother of 8 year old twins she holds two Master’s degrees, one in international politics and economics from King’s College London, and another in Maori development, Major in Social services from Auckland University of Technology.

Kerrin’s experience spans:

  • International consultancy in the UK
  • 20+ years in property and small business, building deep expertise in budgeting, governance, and smart investment
  • Social services in South Auckland


As Deputy Chair of the Council controlled organisations (CCO) Committee, she leads oversight of Auckland’s critical infrastructure and economic development arms including Watercare, Ports of Auckland, and Eke Panuku. She also serves on the Revenue, Expenditure & Value-for-Money Committee, working to ensure smart, transparent spending for better services.

Kerrin Leoni is a New Zealand politician and an Auckland Councillor.
In 2022, Leoni was elected as the Whau ward councillor. The Whau Local Board area includes New Lynn, Green Bay, Kelston, Rosebank, Avondale, New Windsor, and Blockhouse Bay.

She is of Māori (Ngāti Pāoa, Ngāi Takoto, and Ngāti Kurī) and European (Italian and Irish) descent. A mother of twins, Kerrin holds a Master’s degree in international politics and economics from King’s College London, and another in youth development from AUT.

Kerrin is a proud Aucklander—she attended primary school in Mount Roskill and high school on Waiheke Island.

She began her career in social services in South Auckland, then spent several years in the UK running a consultancy focused on quality assurance. Kerrin also has over 20 years’ experience in property investment and small business, giving her strong skills in budgeting and governance.

Currently, she serves as Deputy Chair of the CCO Committee for Auckland Council. This committee oversees relationships with key council-controlled organisations, including Watercare, Tātaki Auckland Unlimited, Eke Panuku Urban Regeneration, and Ports of Auckland. She also sits on the Revenue, Expenditure & Value-for-Money Committee.
